TWU and Cleveland State Sign New Dual Admission Agreement

Athens, Tennessee – In what is being described as an historic joint venture, Tennessee Wesleyan University (TWU) and Cleveland State Community College (CLSCC) have completed a dual admission agreement. Under this agreement, a student enrolled at Cleveland State Community College is admitted into TWU but does not enroll in TWU courses until the student graduates with the associate’s degree. Throughout this program, students will receive cooperative advising in preparation for continued matriculation at Tennessee Wesleyan University. The purpose of this agreement is to establish programs that promote successful experiences for students who wish to complete a bachelor’s degree.

“This agreement,” according to Dr. Tyler Forrest, President of Tennessee Wesleyan University, “sets in motion an actional pathway for students from CLSCC to complete their bachelor’s degree at TWU by eliminating the often confusing and costly transfer process”.

“We are proud of our partnership and relationship with this well-respected institution,” stated Dr. Ray Brooks, Interim President at Cleveland State Community College. “Creating career pathways and easing the transfer process, is a success for students. I appreciate the work that Tennessee Wesleyan University and Cleveland State do every day on behalf of our students.”

To participate in the dual admissions program, a student must be planning to pursue both an associate degree and bachelor’s degree and meet current admission criteria for CLSCC. Additional requirements include:

• Have earned 29 or fewer college-level semester hours and have a cumulative GPA of
2.0.

• CLSCC students who fulfill the requirements for the Dual Admission program will
be guaranteed acceptance into TWU.

• Completion of the Dual Admission Intent to Participate form that includes
authorization for exchange of all application and academic information between
CLSCC and TWU.

• Students must earn an A.S., A.A., or A.A.S. degree from CLSCC.

• 2.0 cumulative GPA to be in good standing in the Dual Admission program.

• Students who adhere to the Tennessee Transfer Pathway will be assured application
of TTP credit toward the specific major at TWU.

The Advantage for Students

Under this agreement, students will become familiar with the university/college staff and academic advisors, which should facilitate the transition process. Students will be able to view their entire degree plans at the onset of their college career. In addition, students can receive a TWU student ID card. The card will allow access to all regular season TWU athletic events, cultural events and speakers. Additionally, the student ID will permit use of the TWU library services and access to TWU bookstore promotions for students. Lastly, TWU will reserve a scholarship award for each student based on the higher of their high school senior year credentials or CLSCC transfer GPA.
