Welcome Weekend 2024

Friday, August 16 - Sunday, August 18, 2024

Welcome Weekend is an annual event for new students held the weekend before classes begin in the fall.
It is an integral part of your TWU journey and the first component to your TWU 101 first year experience class. The sessions are designed to help you learn more about TWU, feel more comfortable on your first day of class, and find some new classmates to connect with. Plus, have a lot of fun along the way! Points are earned for attending Welcome Weekend, so it is required. We will have down time and quiet space, plus plenty of snacks and food to get you through the day. So, dress comfortably, be ready to get wet (you definitely want to bring a change of clothes and shoes) and get ready for a great time.

First-year Experience

TWU 101 and TWU 102 are courses designed to help first-year students succeed and students take these courses in their first semester at TWU.  Together these classes give students the tools to be successful, assist with personal growth, and help them feel comfortable at TWU.

The TWU 101 class provides practical advice in notetaking, reading, time management, opportunities for personal wellness and reflection, a place to connect with peers and learn the ins and outs of life at TWU.  The TWU 102 class focuses on career exploration and development. Throughout both classes students will connect the liberal arts education they are receiving at Tennessee Wesleyan University to their future career.

These classes mark the first High Impact Practice course that Tennessee Wesleyan students will experience. These courses are designed to connect classroom learning to their future career and students will develop their ePortfolio to use during their job search. For example, in TWU 102, students will learn about and develop a resume.

TWU Peer Mentors

Each TWU 101/102 class has a Peer Mentor dedicated to assisting new students in their transition. These fellow Bulldogs will help you communicate and answer questions, provide opportunities for engagement outside of class and support you throughout your freshman year.

Starting at Orientation and going through the first year, the Success Team will be making sure that first-year students have every opportunity to be successful.  First year students will have an academic advisor dedicated to class selection, which will happen during Orientation. Welcome Weekend provides an opportunity to meet peers, your TWU 101 and TWU 102 instructors, and access important resources.  Plus, Success Coaches will provide specialized sessions to support freshman student needs.

We can’t wait for you to begin your journey at TWU. Don’t miss out, so register today!
