War With Ukraine

Join us as we discuss Russia’s War in Ukraine with Dr. John B. Seitz on Tuesday, March 28th at 6 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church.

In February 2022, the Russian Federation launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. This was on the heels of a long-running armed conflict between the two countries centered on Russian-backed separatists in the regions of Eastern Ukraine known as the Donbas that began in 2014.

Since then, Ukraine has repulsed the main Russian advances and recaptured significant territory with the help of NATO and its European neighbors. Where do things stand, one year after the full-scale invasion and nine years since Russia’s proxy war in the Donbas and its annexation of Crimea?

In this talk, Dr. John B. Seitz, Assistant Professor of History at TWU, will give a brief history of the conflict, focusing on the last year of the invasion, and discuss what might come next. Dr. Seitz is a historian of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union, whose research focuses on imperialism, agriculture, and energy, all of which have played crucial roles in the conflict and its global effects.
