Remembering Dr. Larry Wallace
The TWU community lost one of our greatest champions in Dr. Larry Wallace. Dr. Wallace’s contributions to our campus, our community, and our state are significant and will be remembered for many generations to come; most importantly though, he was truly a friend to us all. A link to his obituary can be found below.
Funeral services for Dr. Wallace have been set for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11, at First Baptist Church in Athens. The family will receive friends 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the church. The service’s livestream link is below.
The family has designated TWU as one of two preferred organizations to receive donations in his memory, in lieu of flowers. Gifts to TWU will support the Dr. Larry Wallace Scholarship, which benefits Criminal Justice students in need of financial assistance.
Dr. Wallace’s legacy was featured in the 2020-2021 Arches magazine. Dr. Wallace is the only person in the state’s history to serve as both Director of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and Colonel of the Tennessee Highway Patrol. The story timelined his 40-year career in law enforcement, as well as his transition from law enforcement after retirement; he was the founder of TWU’s Criminal Justice Program, Vice President for External Affairs, a TWU Board of Trustee member, and much more. Dr. Wallace’s contributions to TWU were momumental. You can read the full article here.
Dr. Wallace was honored for his dedication, commitment, and love to Tennessee Wesleyan in 2020 as the University named the new University Square, Wallace Square. You can watch the full dedication ceremony below.
