Travel Study Programs

Program title: Togo: A Francophone World Outside of France 

Trip Directors: Dr. Augustin Bocco abocco@tnwesleyan.edu

Dates: May 20-27, 2024 

This study abroad opportunity will take you to Africa, where you will immerse in the culture and the way of life of the people of Togo and gain a deeper understanding of the legacies of slavery and colonialism and how those affect society in the present. This experience will help you understand that while they speak different languages and exist in a different environment, people in Togo still share the same joys and struggles as people in East Tennessee.  

French 399 is available (3 credits). Tuition is paid separately to TWU and it is not part of the trip budget. Students may participate without enrolling in the courses.

COLLEGE CONSORTIUM FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDIES (CCIS)
makes innovative and exciting programs accessible by offering over 90 programs worldwide. See www.ccisabroad.org.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAMS (ISEP) provides various types of programs at over 100 study sites worldwide. Virtual internships are available too. See www.isep.org.

CENTER FOR CROSS-CULTURAL STUDIES (CC-CS) offers Spanish-language learning experiences in Spain, Argentina, Cuba, and Puerto Rico as well as courses in English. See www.spanishstudies.org

COOPERATIVE CENTER FOR STUDY ABROAD (CCSA) offers courses to students in primarily English-speaking countries around the world. Contact Dr. Barrios (abarrios@tnwesleyan.edu) to learn more about these great opportunities.  

SUMMER STUDY IN FRANCE THROUGH THE CHEZ VOUS PROGRAM, depending on the study track, students gain 6-18 hours of French credit. Students must have completed French 102 or higher in order to participate. Contact abocco@tnwesleyan.edu.

TWU’S RECIPROCAL AGREEMENT WITH NAGASAKI WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY offers a transfer semester or year at our sister institution. Pay TWU’s tuition, but study in Isahaya, Japan. Contact Dr. Ana Barrios at abarrios@tnwesleyan.edu
