Adjunct Professor of Social Work

Overview:
The Social Work Program at Tennessee Wesleyan University is seeking applicants on an ongoing basis for our pool of part-time instructors.

Classes are primarily taught in person at the Athens, TN campus. However, the program does also offer some online courses. Content areas include Human Behavior, Policy, Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders, Practice, Child Welfare, School Social Work, and Social Work with Older Adults.

Applicants will be reviewed and considered as teaching positions arise.

Minimum Qualifications:
•  Master of Social Work from a CSWE accredited program
•  At least two years post MSW practice experience

Preferred Qualifications:
•  Social Work Licensure
•  Prior teaching experience in a social work degree program
•  Experience using instructional technology

Essential Functions Include:
•  Planning and organization of the course, including syllabus in coordination with the program director
•  Instruction of the course
•  Assessment of student performance, including grading
•  Being available to students for individual appointments
•  Timely response to email or other communication
•  Assigning and posting of final grades
•  Submission of attendance information throughout the semester as requested
•  Participation in any required trainings

Adjunct Professor of Sociology

The Department of Social Sciences of Tennessee Wesleyan University in Athens, Tennessee invites applications for Adjunct Professor of Sociology. This position requires at least 18 graduate hours in Sociology, preferably with at least a completed M.A./M.S. degree.

Instructional opportunities include undergraduate-level teaching in both lower and upper division Sociology courses. Additionally, instruction may include in-seat and online course delivery options.

Courses for instruction include Introduction to Sociology, Race and Ethnicity, Social Problems, Gender and Society, Social Movements and Change, Sociological Theory, etc.

Assistant Professor of English and Creative Writing

The Department of English and Creative Writing at Tennessee Wesleyan University in Athens, TN invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of Creative Writing starting in August 2024. Candidates must have an M.F.A. and/or a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment. This position carries a 4/4 teaching load of undergraduate courses, including composition, creative writing classes, and literature. The ideal candidate will also be prepared to teach English Grammar and Usage.

TWU is a small liberal arts college located on a historic campus in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. We have a proud tradition of excellent teaching and mentorship that extends beyond time in the classroom. Candidates should expect to be an active member of the department and university community, which includes attending and helping lead campus events, promoting the Creative Writing program, and directing our campus literary magazine. Beyond evidence of teaching success, in your cover letter we would love to hear about completed and ongoing writing projects, your work with students outside the classroom, and your experience related to diversity and inclusion.

Assistant Professor of Sociology

Tennessee Wesleyan University is a small private institution with a teaching mandate in Athens, Tennessee. The Department of Social Sciences invites applications for a Tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This faculty position requires a terminal degree in Sociology. Additional graduate work in Psychology, Social Work, or Criminal Justice domains is highly valued though not required.

Responsibilities include undergraduate-level classroom instruction in both lower and upper division courses. The candidate will be responsible for program and curricular development, mentoring undergraduates, advising students, and serving on faculty committees. Other programmatic responsibilities include assessing/evaluating curriculum and instruction, courses, and affiliated programs. Highly valued for this position is supervising undergraduate research.

Required qualifications:
Ph.D. in Sociology. ABD candidates will be considered with the expected Ph.D. completion within the first six months of hire.

Additional requirements:
•  Evidence of being a team player who can act in leadership.
•  Teaching background that includes both lower division and upper division undergraduate courses including traditional sociology curriculum as well as sociological theory, basic and advanced research methods, and data analyses.
•  Evidence of scholarship or research practices preferably including undergraduates.
•  Expertise in any domain of intersectionality including but not limited to race, gender, crime, or law enforcement. Both traditional academic and applied approaches will be considered.

Assistant Professor Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics of Tennessee Wesleyan University in Athens, Tennessee invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mathematics at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor scheduled to start in August 2024.  The minimum requirement is a terminal degree in mathematics or mathematics education.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to teach a wide variety of courses, both lower and upper division, in the undergraduate degree in mathematics.

In addition to the teaching duties describe above, this position will require the successful candidate to serve on college committees; assess/evaluate instruction, courses, and programs; participate in community service, departmental meetings, curriculum planning, and student recruitment and retention activities.  The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to collegiality throughout their tenure at Tennessee Wesleyan University.

Assistant Professor of Biology

The Department of Natural Sciences of Tennessee Wesleyan University in Athens, Tennessee invites applications for a tenure-track position in Biology at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor scheduled to start in August 2024.  The minimum requirement is a terminal degree in Biology or related field.  The successful candidate will have the demonstrated ability to teach the following courses and associated labs for science majors:  the first semester of General Biology; Genetics; General Microbiology; Advanced Cellular Biology; Molecular Biology; Biology Seminar; possibly an upper-level Biology elective and other teaching assignments as needed by the university and department.

In addition to the teaching duties described above the successful candidate will be expected to advise students; serve on college committees; assess/evaluate instruction, courses, and programs; participate in community service, departmental meetings, curriculum planning, and student recruitment and retention activities.  Supervision of student research would be strongly encouraged.

Assistant Professor of Business Administration

The Goodfriend School of Business at Tennessee Wesleyan University invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Business Administration. This position requires at least 18 hours in management and/or business analytics. The desired candidate will have a master’s degree in the field, but a terminal degree is preferred. The candidate will be required to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in the Goodfriend School of Business. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the traditional day program, the Management Excellence degree completion program, and the graduate business programs.

This position will require the successful candidate to advise students, serve on TWU and Goodfriend School of Business committees and be supportive of the goals of the university. Being a team player is critical to the candidate’s success in the Goodfriend School of Business.
