Staff Openings
Transfer Admissions Counselor
Reporting Relationship: Associate Director of Transfer & Graduate Admissions
Department: Admissions
Responsibilities: Positively promote the University to prospective students and their families. The position requires extensive local travel, including some night, weekend and overnight, to various community colleges and events throughout the region. Duties include but are not limited to:
- Generate names of prospective transfer and adult students through events, community meetings, college fairs, and networking events.
- Promote Tennessee Wesleyan in a manner that encourages prospective transfer and adult students to apply and visit campus
- Plan and coordinate recruitment travel by territory in conjunction with the Director of Transfer Admissions
- Work with prospective students and their family from the inquiry stage through matriculation
- Maintain working knowledge of college majors, programs, and organizations
- Develop a rapport with other constituents including community college staff, TWU staff and faculty, and other community organizations and businesses
- Review applications, initiate personal contact with prospects through telephone calls, electronic mail, letter/postcard follow-up, etc.
- Maintain accurate and up to date files for prospective students
- Extensive data entry using the university database system
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Transfer Admissions
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required and experience in higher education preferred. Candidate must have strong written, and verbal interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to speak to large groups. The candidate should also possess strong computer and organizational skills and to ability to manage multiple projects with a high level of accuracy in a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions. Candidates are required to handle information in a confidential and professional manner. The individual must be able to work independently, as part of a team and be goal oriented.

Graphic Designer
Tennessee Wesleyan University invites qualified candidates to apply for the Graphic Designer position within the University’s Marketing and Communications Department, reporting to the Vice President for Marketing and Communications.
The graphic designer provides overall artistic direction to lead the University’s visual communication efforts. The ideal candidate, a creative problem-solver, will offer strategic graphic design solutions for various print and digital collateral aimed at attracting traditional and non-traditional students, as well as promoting the University’s overall brand. Responsibilities include maintaining an identity and brand image for the University through print and electronic mediums, coordinating creative services offered through MarComm staff, and advising the campus community in relation to current design best practices.
Duties included, but not limited to:
- Design the family of recruitment marketing materials for the admissions team to use during the recruitment of both traditional and non-traditional students.
- Coordinates design and printing of various advancement and alumni projects (including correspondence for homecoming and other alumni and fundraising efforts/events/meetings).
- Responsible for the design and layout of external brochures, flyers, posters, and postcards.
- Identifies and curates relationships with area printers by requesting quotes, discussing proper printing techniques and paper selections, and ensuring invoices are submitted to the business office for payment.
- Utilize a project management system to track and manage project life-cycle.
- Assists with testing new design concepts to ensure work aligns with departmental needs and expectations.
- Reviews and updates brand standards manual to guide the entire University in use of University logos, colors, fonts, and other design principles.
- Creates digital ads for Google and Bing to raise brand awareness and drive traffic to the website.
- Assist in ordering promotional items to ensure visual brand consistency.
- Work closely with a variety of personality types and communicate effectively across varying levels of the organization.
- Assist with functions associated with the Office of Marketing and Communications.
- Other duties/responsibilities: Works with clients, printers and outside entities to negotiate costs, manage project timelines and address any technical or creative issues. Work with photographers, freelancers, and vendors in the development of marketing materials.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design or related field.
- 2-3 years of professional design experience within an organization/team preferred.
- Experience with the entire Adobe Creative Suite (specifically InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop), Microsoft Office Suite.
- Design experience creating marketing collateral for a variety of audiences – preference given to higher education experience.
- Working knowledge of printing process preferred.
- Knowledge of current and new technologies to assist in offering design and graphic direction as well as knowledge of procurement, copyright, trademark and other relevant business policies and procedures.
- Ability to work in a fast-pace environment with changing deadlines and priorities while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Outstanding organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Ability to flex working hours in response to project demands.

Faculty Position in Psychology
Tennessee Wesleyan University is a small private institution with a teaching mandate and is in Athens, Tennessee. The Department of Social Sciences invites applications for a Tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. This faculty position requires a terminal degree in Psychology with either Experimental as primary or topical emphasis.
Responsibilities include undergraduate-level classroom instruction in both lower and upper division courses. The candidate will be responsible for mentoring undergraduates, academic advising, and serving on faculty committees. Other programmatic responsibilities include assessing/evaluating curriculum and instruction, courses, and affiliated programs. Essential for this position is the supervision of undergraduate research.
Required qualifications:
Ph.D. in Psychology or Experimental Psychology. ABD candidates will be considered with the expected Ph.D. completion within the first six months of hire.

Assistant Professor of Communications
The Department of Communication Studies at Tennessee Wesleyan University in Athens, Tennessee invites applications for a tenure-track position in Communication Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor. Applications will be accepted beginning in October 2024. The minimum requirement is a master’s degree in Communication or related field, terminal degree is preferred. The Department of Criminal Justice invites applications for a tenure-track faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Criminal Justice and Legal Studies. This faculty position requires a minimum requirement of a master’s degree in criminal justice or a related field. Juris Doctor degree is preferred.
Responsibilities include undergraduate-level classroom instruction in both lower and upper division courses in criminal justice, criminal law, and legal studies. The candidate will be responsible for program and curricular development, mentoring undergraduates, advising students, and serving on faculty committees. Other programmatic responsibilities include assessing/evaluating curriculum and instruction, courses, and affiliated programs. The ideal candidate will also have an interest in working with a multidisciplinary group of faculty to develop pre-law programming.
