Immersing their lives into other cultures while gaining course credit helps to develop critical skills that employers are looking for. About Us

Study Abroad Opportunities: Students live in another country and take classes there for a full term or a year. These offer full immersion in the host university and in the culture of the host country.

We are affiliated with ISEP, CCIS, CCSA, CC-CS, and Chez Vous Summer. These programs offer credit-bearing courses, and students’ grades are transferred back to TWU. Nagasaki Wesleyan’s Japanese Language Program is a shared program: students are evaluated based on their work in Japan, but other pre- and post-course work is dealt with by a TWU instructor. The credit (3-6 hours, JPN 299 Study Abroad in Japanese) is offered by TWU, and a TWU instructor submits the final grade upon completion of the work

Travel Study Programs: Students gain credit in courses offered by TWU faculty on faculty-led trips.

These programs combine travel and coursework in any discipline. The associated coursework may take place on campus before leaving, after returning, and/or during the trip itself. TWU instructors and their chairs monitor the content of and credit for these courses.

Excursions: Travel in and of itself is a learning experience. TWU faculty may lead trips and tours without offering a for-credit course.

CCSA – The Cooperative Center for Study Abroad offers study abroad experiences in English-‐speaking countries: England, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, and Belize. https://ccsa.cc/

SSA Education Abroad offers summer and semester abroad experiences in Spanish-‐ speaking countries: Spain (Barcelona, Seville, Alicante), Puerto Rico, Argentina, Cuba, and Panama. https://ssabroad.org/

Chez Vous Normandy offers complete French language and culture immersion. You may spend a few weeks in the summer or a semester long in northern France. https://www.chezvousnormandy.org/

ISEP Study Abroad: study, intern, and volunteer programs in more than fifty countries. https://www.isepstudyabroad.org/

Nagasaki Wesleyan University: you can study a semester or a year at our sister university in Isahaya. Pay your academic tuition and fees to TWU and NWU will waive all academic fees and provide free accommodations.

Cumberland Island National Seashore: an environmental field study of a barrier island -‐ Led by Dr. Jeannie Long
When: May 21 – 28, 2025
Cost: $800
Students can earn academic credits

Costa Rica: four weeks of language and culture immersion – Led by Dr. Ana Barrios
When: June 2025 Cost: $2,000
Students in the Spanish minor may earn academic credits

Czech Republic: immerse in the culture and history of Czechia and experience a different learning environment by staying on the campus of Palacky University.
Led by Dr. Jack Seitz When: May 2025 Cost: $2,250

Isahaya and Nagasaki, Japan: visit Nagasaki Wesleyan University as well as natural, cultural, and historical sites nearby
Led by Ersa Henry When: May 22 – 31, 2025
Cost: $3,500

China‐US Culture Exchange Tour: travel to Beijing, Lang Fang, and Tianjin and embark in a transformative journey into the heart of Chinese culture.
Led by Dr. Chris Schutz
When: Summer of 2025
Cost: visa to enter China -‐ $140; you will need to pay for your flights, and at the end of the trip you will be reimbursed $1,000; everything else is paid for by the China-‐Us Culture Exchange Tour and its sponsors.

Study Abroad Scholarships

The Bulldog Connection Matching Funds Program:
Pay in $500 and watch TWU match with $500 more. Repeat up to two more times.

The Burdette Global Scholarship Fund: $1,000. Application available at the study abroad resource center; eligibility based on academic merit and financial need.
