Medical Services

Tennessee Wesleyan University has a health services partnership, joining with United Primary Care to provide needed services to TWU students. United Primary Care has three locations, Etowah, Madisonville, and the most convenient to the University, on Washington Ave. in Athens, less than a mile from the TWU campus. Students have access to all three locations.

Students have access to basic care, such as physical exams, general checkups, and prescription writing, at no cost. Additional services, such as flu and strep tests, x-rays, various testing, and blood work are also available at a discounted rate, or through the student’s insurance carrier.

The offices are open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m and on Tuesday and Thursday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Students can schedule an appointment by calling McMinn Primary Care at (423) 745-6610.

Starr Regional Medical Center is located minutes from campus. They provide urgent care services including 24-hour Emergency Room facilities. To learn more call Starr Regional at (423) 745-1411.

Counseling Services

The years you spend in college will be some of the most formative of your life, filled with exciting and scary changes. You will learn how to balance work with a social life, form new and closer relationships, develop personal and career goals, and gain your independence.

Tennessee Wesleyan provides its students with a variety of options to fit the students’ health and wellness needs. Depending on your needs, you may meet individually with the Vice President of student Life or the Chaplain. Additionally, students are able to utilize free services provided by our partners at TELUS

Students may contact the Student Life Office at 423-746-5216 or look at the TWU app under Health and Wellness to find the TELUS link and make an appointment.

Candy Maddux - Director of Career & Leadership Development

“Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.” – Harriet Tubman. I am a very open, fun-loving and compassionate person raised in a community similar to Athens. There was a sense of home when I visited the campus, and I knew I would fit right in. In my journey of higher education, I have found that every student that I come in contact with deserves the opportunity to succeed. I often tell my students, it doesn’t matter where you come from, but how you finish. Your education can never be taken from you. – DeLunda “Candy” Maddux

TWU prepares students with the transformative experience and to be well-rounded leaders who make a positive impact on the world.
